Alajoki Hiking Trail

Trek along the shore of River Alajoki through the varied landscape of Vainikkala. Along the trail, you will find information boards on the birdlife and plants in the area.

The 3-km-long (one way) Alajoki Hiking Trail (Alajoen retkeilyreitti) from Vainikkala to Rikkilä has been marked by using poles with blue tops, paint signs on trees and signposts.

Along the trail, you will find information boards on the birdlife and plants in the area. In flood periods, it is advisable to hike along the upper trail, further away from the shore. This moderate trail has some altitude differences and difficult spots. Along the marked trail, you will find the Tuhkakangas lean-to shelter and the Kiekka rest spot. Both of them have a campfire site and a composting toilet.

Please note! On the map, the route line has been drawn along the lower route on the shore of River Alajoki. During spring floods and in an especially wet weather, it is advisable to choose the trail running higher up along the slope. There are signposts at the intersections of the trails.

Hiking trail starting point is:  Korpelantie 157, Lappeenranta
