On this site, we gather every month a sortiment of happenings in the Lappeenranta area for you to get excited about and take part in!

Winter Happenings

  • JAN 10th and FEB 14th at 7 am to 2 pm Seasonal Market (Lappeenranta Market square) 
  • JAN 22nd at 6 pm World in Melodies –The Dragoon Band concert offers listeners melodic and harmonic wind orchestra music from different parts of the world. Free entry. (Lappee Church of St Mary, Valtakatu 35)
  • JAN 28th at 7 pm UK Pink Floyd Experience –show (Lappeenranta City Hall)
  • JAN 31st at 10 am to 1 pm Winter harbour opening celebrations at the Lappeenranta Harbour! During five themed Saturdays and one Sunday, you can try winter sports and relax in the glow of evening bonfires. More information about winter fun in Lappeenranta: visitlappeenranta.fi/winter-holidays-for-families  
  • FEB 28th Kalevala day - Set'akat - traditional Karelian folk music concert, free admission (Lappeenranta City Hall)

Museums:

  • JAN 2nd and FEB 6th Museum Friday, free entrance to the  South Karelia Museum, Lappeenranta Art Museum and Cavalry Museum (the fortress of Lappeenranta)

Lappeenranta City Orchestra:

  • JAN 15th at 6 PM Rosamunde at Lappeenranta Old Town Hall
  • JAN 21st at 6 PM Piazzolla on bandoneon
  • JAN 27th at 6 PM Get to know the orchestra
  • FEB 12th at 6 PM  Saimaa Sinfonietta – Romantic turmoils, check the program lprorkesteri.fi/en 
 

Watch wintersports:

  • Icehockey: Liiga Saipa – local icehockey team’s upcoming matches (Kisapuisto Ice stadium)  
  • Check the upcoming games saipa.fi

Local culture:

  • Enjoy the atmoshperic sauna and try ice swimming at the Myllysaari public sauna. Read more livelife.fi  
 

Experience the nature:

  • Dog sledding ride can be booked from valkoinenkukka.fi  
  • Downhill and cross-country skiing in Myllymäki Ski Centre (Joutseno)
  • Ski trails can be found all over the city, skis can be rented from drakkarsport.com   
  • Multi-Use Trail on a Lake Saimaa starts at the harbour square for walk, ski and cycle (If ice conditions permit!)
  • Explore the historical Fortress of Lappeenranta, the nature and cultural trail goes around the historical Fortress.
