The Gem Museum
The Gem Museum leads you into the fascinating world of gemstones: you can see a collection of replicas of the most famous diamonds in the world, an optical gemstone, desert roses, sea jasper, a quarter-ton piece of rose quartz from Madagascar, different types of ore and 4,000 other specimens. Prehistoric fossils, corals and meteorites are also fascinating exhibits.
The crown of the spectacular exhibits of the museum is the Finnish national gemstone, spectrolite, that is found in areas just a few kilometres from the museum. Spectrolite is, at present, valued as the most beautiful labradorite in the world, and as a precious gemstone mineral, it has only been discovered in the Ylämaa area!
The floor of the Gem Museum is a stone exhibition all on its own! In the floor, you can see how the most beautiful and important decorative and outdoor stone materials, originating in Finland and from abroad, are used. You can explore the warm tones of a stone floor under your own two feet!
The museum also has a treasure sand stand, where you can search for real gemstones to take home with you.
Tour the exhibition with one of our museum guides! At the end of the tour, you can watch an amazing show at the exhibition of illuminating gemstones. You will find that you see the beautiful stones around you with new eyes, after your visit. The Gem Museum: +358 400 391 590.
Guide languages: Finnish, Swedish, English. Other languages can be arranged by prior booking, for example Russian.
