Lappeenranta 375th Anniversary

This year marks the 375th anniversary of the city of Lappeenranta, and in honor of this milestone, the residents of Lappeenranta and visitors alike can enjoy a program of celebration weeks throughout the entire month of August.

During these celebration weeks, Lappeenranta's local expertise, spirit of collaboration, and pride in the community are honored and proudly showcased.

The Lappeenranta 375 celebrations are organized together with local stakeholders, which is reflected in the program and activity points in the area, as well as in the event's partners. You can also find the Anniversary week's program here

3.-4.8. The Strongest Man and Woman Competition (Suomen Vahvin Mies ja Nainen -kilpailu)

Finland's strongest men and women will compete for this year's titles at Katariina Square. Learn more about the event format on the organizer's website.

7.8. Rakuunarock

 Rakuunasoittokunta goes heavy at the Harbor Square with soloists Jouni Hynynen from Kotiteollisuus and Antti Hyyrynen from Stam1na.

10.8. LPR375 Celebration Day

 The City of Lappeenranta, OP Kaakkois-Suomi and Lappeenrannan Energia are offering a free celebration day for everyone. Welcome to celebrate Lappeenranta's 375th anniversary!

The main day of the 375th anniversary celebrations will be held on August 10th in the fortress. The celebration day's program is designed with the idea that everyone will find something of interest – there's something for everyone.

The program includes plenty of dance, theater, and performances by well-known artists such as Kolmas Nainen, Isaac Sene, and local talent Nuppu Oinas.

11.8. Movie Day

In honor of the celebration weeks, Lappeenranta the Dream Year of Culture will offer three free film screenings on August 11th at the festival tent in the fortress.

14.8.Something totally different

In the festival tent at the fortress, you will hear a concert lecture on Pietari Brahe accompanied by a lute, jazz by the Grímsey Ensemble, and national romantic contemporary music inspired by Karelian traditions by the Dänkki Briha Ensemble. More information coming soon.

14.-18.8. Kumaus Festival

This unique festival, offering surprises in art music and entertaining music lovers, will take place from August 14th–18th. This event is partially free of charge.. Learn more about the festival on its website.

15.8. Marianne Day

Honoring the traditions of Finland's candy capital, Marianne's birthday celebration will take place in Pusupuisto. The event offers sweet treats for the whole family. In collaboration with Fazer, there will be programs throughout Pusupuisto and on the summer theater stage. The event will also feature food vendors and café services reminiscent of Restaurant Day.

17.8. LPRHC Fest - The Last Pit!

The LPRHC Fest, focusing on punk, hardcore, and alternative music and enjoying nationwide popularity, will be held this year as a one-day event on August 17th in the fortress. The program will feature a mix of punk, hardcore, spoken word, and small surprises, including a comeback performance by the local legend Kyre & Duunarit.

24.8. Lappeenranta Half -Half Marathon

A half marathon and a 10-kilometer running event in and around the harbor..

The event is free for the public. 

30.1.-31.8.Harbor Lights

The celebration weeks will conclude with the familiar summer closing event, Harbor Lights, which will be held for two days instead of one on August 30th–31st.
