There are several churches in Lappeenranta and they are great places for a quiet moment of retreat to admire church architecture. The city’s history, as a border town, is reflected in its churches. The oldest Orthodox Church is nestled in Old Town, the Fortress. The Lappeenranta Church, too, was originally a garrison church, built for the Orthodox denomination.
