8. Water Tower + Arboretum

Tree Garden

The Water Tower is one of Lappeenranta’s most famous landscapes, but is often only on the way of a drive by. However, the surroundings of the water tower offer an interesting visit, since there is more to see in the area than you would imagine. The 40-meter-high tower was constructed already in 1927 and to its current appearance in 1954.

Nature is always near in Lappeenranta but in the Arboretum behind the Water Tower, you can enjoy the greenery of lush trees even in the middle of the city.
The Arboretum of Lappeenranta is a suitable resting place especially on a warm day because the shadow of the trees cools enough.

Even though there is a Children’s Traffic Town (Valtakatu 61) and an artificial turf soccer field (Valtakatu 78) in the park area, there is enough to see also in the Arboretum, since it has more than a hundred woody plants.

The Arboretum continues from the soccer field also to the area of Lappee’s Old Rectory.
